You know what time it is. This week’s New Music Friday features a stacked playlist of best new songs and releases. There’s exciting new singles, special collaborations, long-awaited studio albums, and highly-anticipated tracks. Today, we welcome new music from superstars Lizzo and SZA, singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, Korean powerhouses Epik High, multi-hyphenate Ryan Destiny, and the icons that are Paramore.
“I always go into an album cycle being like, ‘This time, I’m going to have all my shit together,’” Hayley Williams recently told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe of the band’s return. “And you stress about all these other things, but it’s the music. We are the ones that wanted to put out a record at the top of the year, so of course we had to work through the holidays a little bit. It used to be so strategic and I think we just didn’t really want to wait longer than we had to… In the past, we’ve pushed [the label] to do quicker drops, but this time we were like, ‘You know what? Whatever you guys want to do for the rollout, we’re here for the ride.’ And then it was like, as we started talking about it, we were like, ‘Yeah, but we don’t want to wait that long, so…’ February felt right. It felt good.”
We agree — February feels even better now that Paramore is back. Keep scrollings to dive into our picks for the five best new songs and releases of the week.
Lizzo feat. SZA, “Special (Remix)”
A Taurus and a Scorpio walk into a recording studio, and the outcome is this beautiful remix of “Special,” the title track from Lizzo’s fourth studio album. Per the track’s press release, the collaboration is even more meaningful once you consider the fact that “Special” is SZA’s favorite song from the album. In case you need a break from the soul-glaring depths of SZA’s SOS, tap into the warmth of this inspiring new collab.
