Lizzo Pulled off the Most Unconventional Lipstick Color — Watch the Video
Lizzo continued her stylish streak, matching an unconventional lip color to her OOTD. The performer debuted the major makeup statement in a TikTok, tagging the MUA responsible for the black lipstick look.
In the first video, Lizzo captures as MUA Alexx Mayo applied a liquid lipstick to her lips. The clip is soundtracked by a voiceover from Rihanna’s previous tutorial on wearing black lipstick. Beginning with the bottom lip, Mayo applied the color carefully before Lizzo showed off the completed application. “Trusss the process,” Lizzo captioned the video. She further showed off the color in a second clip, adding that her top was from her Yitty shapewear line.
Thanks to her MUA, we know the exact lipstick used for Lizzo’s bold makeup. In his TikTok duet, Mayo confirmed it was Mac’s Retro Matte Liquid Lip in the shade Caviar. The shade is currently still available through Ulta.

Black might seem like a daunting lip color to wear, but it is possible to incorporate in your daily glam. Lizzo, Rihanna, and Gigi Hadid have all given their stamp of approval for the look. As for how to DIY the beauty routine, Rihanna’s previous tutorial contained some guidance. She suggested trying a color that’s not sheer. She also applied the lipstick in multiple coats, only making touch ups after the first coat had dried.
Makeup artist Dell Ashley shared some additional tips on wearing black lipstick in a 2019 interview with Allure, suggesting that you layer the black coloring over your preferred color. He added, “Use a liner with it to give sharp clean edges. If you cannot find a black lip liner, you can use a black eyeliner as a substitute.”
If you’re not ready to go quite that dark with your color, there are other Lizzo-approved beauty options you could try. She’s frequently switching up her hair, donning colorful wigs in shades of purple and pink. Lizzo also went all out with the sparkle, wearing glittery eyeshadow in a January TikTok.
