The large, ensemble cast of the hit Netflix historical drama series Bridgerton is star-studded and truly beloved — but there’s only a handful of universal fan-favorite characters like Queen Charlotte. If you’ve ever caught yourself mid-episode dreaming up an imaginary world that explores Queen Charlotte’s backstory, then your manifestation powers are unmatched. Netflix is soon set to release a limited series titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a prequel spin-off to the original show.

The spinoff was first announced in May 2021, and will be written by Shonda Rhimes, who will also serve as showrunner. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the limited series will consist of eight episodes and focus on a younger version of Charlotte while also weaving in storylines featuring young Violet Bridgerton and young Lady Danbury.

Back in 2021 when the show was announced, Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria shared a statement saying the Bridgerton creative team was “thrilled” to further expand both Charlotte’s story and the world of the Ton: “Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love.”

Queen Charlotte has a stacked cast of series regulars, and will be led by a mix of new and familiar faces. Playing the titular role is India Ria Amarteifio, who has previously appeared in Doctor Who and Netflix’s Sex Education. Arsema Thomas will portray young Lady Danbury and Connie Jenkins-Greig will play young Violet Ledger (before she becomes Violet, Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton).
