Ashley Tisdale Got Candid About Dealing With Hair Loss After Being Diagnosed With Alopecia
Ashley Tisdale is getting real about hair loss and alopecia.
The actor and Frenshe founder shared her journey in an Instagram video, revealing that she first noticed hair loss in her early 20s; she flagged a bald spot near her hairline to her hairstylist, who suspected alopecia might be the culprit. Ashley was then officially diagnosed with alopecia by her dermatologist. “It’s autoimmune, a lot of it is triggered by stress, and I was going through a really stressful time,” she says in the video.
Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss, and it can affect both your scalp and your body. Ashley also wrote about how she deals with hair loss on the Frenshe blog, saying that the hair loss reoccurred when she was moving, renovating her new home, and starting a new TV project.
She decided to be open about her hair loss to help others dealing with similar things not feel so alone. For the High School Musical Star, stress is the key culprit behind her hair loss. “Sometimes it’s connected to hormones, other times to heredity, and for me, it’s connected to stress overload.”
When she notices hair loss, Ashley relies on a few different methods to help center herself, manage stress, and re-ignite hair growth. Ashley shared that mindfulness activities like meditation are helpful in managing her stress, and she also shared that she has gotten platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments to help her hair grow back, as well as a laserband to stimulate the hair follicle.
If you’re dealing with a similar issue, Ashley wants you to know you’re not alone. “Any type of hair loss can affect your self-esteem, especially if you feel like you’re the only one going through it,” she shared. “That’s why I want to talk about it openly—because it’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
