Doja Cat Thinks Comparing Her Shaved Head to Britney Spears Buzzcut is Disrespectful

Doja Cat thinks the comments comparing her to Britney Spears need to go. 

Last year toward the end of summer, the “Woman” singer went on Instagram Live with a razor in one hand and a heart-shaped handheld mirror in the other and shaved her head and her eyebrows. “My makeup artist just texted me, ‘Are you shaving your brows off? I’m driving the f*ck over,’” she said to the camera. “I’m gonna do it.”

Since then, people have not hesitated to compare Doja Cat’s move to Britney Spears’ infamous choice back in 2007 to shave her head during a time when she was being harassed by the paparazzi and struggling with her mental health. 

“It’s so incredibly disrespectful for people to be minimizing what Britney went through and make a joke out of something that was very serious and a big deal in her life,” Doja told Variety for their latest cover story. “Every time I see a comment like that, I can’t compute what’s happening, other than it’s just an awful thing.”

The difference between Doja and Britney is that while Britney was photographed by the paps without permission, Doja made the choice to livestream it and invite her fans into the experience. 

“When I shaved my eyebrows off and I shaved my head, I remember thinking, ‘Get this shit off of me,’ because I needed to change something,” she explained in the interview. “I wasn’t working out and wasn’t really taking care of myself in the way that I wanted to. I was like, ‘I need to do something,’ so I just chopped it all off. And I could see the shape of my head. I could see my whole face. I can see my ears, now that I don’t have a wig that’s glued to my forehead.”
