Frank Ocean Drops Out of Headlining Coachella 2023 Weekend 2
Frank Ocean has pulled out of his headlining slot at Coachella 2023, and will not perform his scheduled Sunday set for Weekend 2 due to leg injury.
A representative for the singer-songwriter confirmed Frank’s withdrawal from the music festival on the afternoon of April 19, providing a statement to Variety: “Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella. After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity. On doctor’s advice, ARTIST is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg. ‘It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.’ Frank Ocean.”
Frank’s Coachella performance on April 16 marked his first live performance since 2017, and was widely scrutinized by fans and critics due to production issues a nearly hour-long delay. A few hours before the performance, YouTube announced that Frank’s set would not be shown in its all-access Coachella live stream. Many have speculated in the days after that Frank’s performance was also cut short due to an ankle injury, which has now been seemingly confirmed by his team.
Blink-182, who joined the Coachella 2023 lineup as surprise performers during Weekend 1, will now replace Frank as this Sunday’s headliner.
