Joe Jonas Felt Destroyed Losing ”Amazing Spider-Man” Role to Andrew Garfield
A Jonas Brother was almost a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a new interview, Joe Jonas opened up about his Spider-Man dreams, revealing he had hoped to be cast in a previous film.
As Joe explained in the Just for Variety podcast, he auditioned for the role of Spider-Man in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Asked to reflect upon a missed acting opportunity that left him “destroyed,” Joe said, “I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously, he was the right one.”
He continued, saying, “I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks and the director used to be a music video director. So I was like, “I got an in here.” But you know what? I love the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself.”
Although Joe confessed to feeling “destroyed or defeated” at the time, he acknowledged that Andrew was “brilliant” for the role. While the superstar didn’t get an official chance to don the Spidey-Suit, he did apparently have a ‘fit of his own, saying, “I’m sure I had one that I would try on occasionally back in the day.”
The podcast interview comes ahead of Joe’s return to film. He appears in the new movie Devotion, which is based on the story of two Korean War naval officers. “It’s been a minute since obviously I’ve done any acting,” Joe said. “The pandemic really gave me plenty of time. Touring wasn’t really an option, so I was like, well, what am I going to do with myself here? I obviously love acting and it’s something I’ve always wanted to get back into.”
We’ll have to stay tuned to see whether Joe Jonas appears in any future films, but he didn’t rule out collaborating with Sophie Turner. “I think it comes down to the right role or project. I think it would be fun,” he said.
