Kim Kardashian Is Joining the Cast of American Horror Story Season 12

“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” Murphy said in a statement to THR. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture.”

Drawing from a novel (or any outside source material) is a first for the long-running horror anthology show, which Murphy also acknowledged in his statement. “This season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done,” he said.

In another first, the season will also be written and run by a single writer, Halley Feiffer, an actor and playwright. Delicate Condition, which comes out on August 1, follows Anna Alcott, an up-and-coming indie actress undergoing a “grueling IVF journey,” according to the book’s description. She’s told she’s had a miscarriage despite feeling otherwise, and begins to wonder “what exactly she’s carrying inside of her” as her symptoms grow “ever more horrifying.” Definitely not a super timely premise or anything. 

Although some critics have described Delicate Condition as a “feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby,” it’s unclear if Kim Kardashian is necessarily the best conduit for any sort of meaningful messages about reproductive justice — though knowing Murphy, he’ll surely try to make her one. At the very least, we can call it camp?

American Horror Story: Delicate is expected to premiere this summer.
