Lizzo Said She’s Close to Quitting Music Because of Online Hate
Lizzo has had enough of negative comments online about her body, saying that she’s “close to giving up” and quitting.
The musician and Yitty founder logged onto Twitter earlier this week and responded to a hateful tweet from a conservative commentator who made a nasty remark about Lizzo’s body. In response — with a screenshot of the negative comment — Lizzo wrote: “I JUST logged on and the app and this is the type of shit I see about me on a daily basis. It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food.’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO.”
Lizzo’s Twitter account is currently private and can only be seen by her current followers. Lizzo also responded to another tweet claiming the artist doesn’t “want” to be thinner.
“Y’all really need to touch grass,” Lizzo wrote. “I’m not trying to BE fat. I’m not trying to BE smaller. I’m literally just trying to live and be healthy. This is what my body looks like even when I’m eating super clean and working out!”
In several follow-up tweets, the “Juice” singer lamented about the amount of “hate” she receives on social media — particularly surrounding her body. Lizzo has had to defend herself multiple times against the discourse online that centers on what her body looks like.
“Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a FUCKING FARM,” Lizzo continued in another tweet.
Lizzo also wrote that “being fat isn’t” her “brand,” but instead is just how her “body looks.” She went on to say that her “brand” is “feel good music,” “championing all people,” and “Black girl liberation.”
