Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Shared a Skin Care Hack for “Efficiency”
The return of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever is imminent, and the show’s breakout star, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, has definitely learned plenty of beauty tips and tricks from all her time spent in the makeup chair getting into character. The actress shared her skincare and makeup routine – including a face wash hack – in a new “Beauty Secrets” video for Vogue.
Maitreyi starts her routine with the Éminence Organics Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser, but before she washes her face, she makes sure to mix in an oil cleanser (the Stone Crop Cleansing Oil, also from Éminence Organics) in the name of efficiency. “I like to do two things at once,” she said regarding this step of her routine
To cleanse, the star uses the Ezbasics Silicone Facial Cleansing Brush to get the job done thoroughly. While cleansing, she doubles down on the importance of washing your face, especially when you’re wearing TV makeup (which she notes is heavier than your everyday makeup). She follows up with the Epicutis Lipid Serum and Epicutis Hyvia Crème for moisturization, and tops it all off with Supergoop! Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40.
Once her skin is fully prepped, Maitreyi moves on to makeup and primes her face with the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. When it comes to foundation and concealer, Maitreyi creates another mixture, which she explains is because of the very real struggles of finding the perfect shade match as a woman of color. To get the right amount coverage while matching her skin tone, she mixes the Pur 4-in-1 Love Your Selfie Longwear Foundation/Concealer with Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation. “It’s so important to me that my skin stays my skin. I don’t want to have a white cast over my face,” she shares.
Maitreyi goes easy on the eyebrows, light handedly using the Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Waterproof Eyebrow Definer and Kosas Air Brow Gel. The actress is going for a glam makeup look, so she dips into the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette and lines her eyes with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil (dramatic wing included). She finishes the look with a brush of Charlotte Tilbury Cheek To Chic Blush on the apples of her cheeks, and layers on the Tata Harper Vitamin-Infused Cream Blush because she prefers to stay dewy, rather than totally matte.
While she’s finishing up her makeup, Maitreyi shares the importance of proper lighting for people of color on television sets, because a bad lighting job can ruin a fabulous makeup look. Thankfully, this is a priority for the star’s boss, Mindy Kaling. “I don’t know if I could’ve asked for a better first boss. She truly has my back and I always feel so safe with her,” shares Maitreyi. To top it all off, she swipes on the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, revealing that she usually prefers to keep her lips almost bare.
