PX90 Workout – Can You Get Results Without Using Weights?

Google Sites

The PX90 workout includes a variety of weight training DVD’s in the workout schedule however, often times I see people asking, “Can I get results with PX90 just using the bands?”

First things first, we will compare weights VS bands:

The idea behind the PX90 workout is to include a wide variety of fitness to challenge the body. There are several cardio DVD’s, several weight training workouts, and a Yoga workout.

During the weight training days the crew behind Tony Horton is lifting a variety of dumbbells, with various weights and techniques. However, there is usually one other person demonstrating the use of bands in some sort of modified form to target the same muscle groups.

With a set of dumbbells one could of course complete each move in its entirety by fully targeting the muscle group in focus. The interesting thing about bands is, instead of dead weight, they are like elastic bands and so work with tension.

You may find working with bands a little more cumbersome because you will have to modify certain moves. With weights, it’s straight forward and requires much less maneuvering.

  • A pro with using dumbbells is that you can do each move, as instructed, without having to think much. However, weights can also cause momentum which, if not controlled this momentum and cause injury OR prevent you from getting results.
  • A pro with bands is that you can use them for nearly every move in PX90 and the tension is more than enough to create a targeted burn. However, bands do not offer a constant weight since they use tension, so you may get more at the top of the move but the band quickly loses tension as you bring it back down.

Also, bands will require a little more attentiveness to see what the example is during the DVD. Though, in the long run, it’s safe to say you will begin to learn how to modify each move.

So can you get results using only bands with the PX90 workout?

The answer is, yes. However, the results will not be as explosive as they would be if you used a set of dumbbells. Also, some moves will be very difficult to perform using the bands as you must stand on them to get the proper tension.

Weights are really the way to go. They will provide constant weight and allow you to move from each exercise easily since you can follow the que’s, rather than trying to see what the example is in the background.

Don’t let this deter you if you cannot get weights or you do not have access at this point. Bands will still give you results and are more than a challenge; they will just require a little more effort to learn how to use them properly.
