Selena Gomez Defends Taylor Swift After Hailey Bieber Video Resurfaces

Selena Gomez is speaking up and defending her bestie Taylor Swift.

A short video of Hailey Bieber has recently resurfaced on TikTok and garnered some criticism from fans about Hailey’s reaction in the clip. At one point in the video, which is a few years old, the name “Taylor Swift” is mentioned regarding her lyrics and Hailey visibly gags, pretending to stick her finger down her throat as the crowd laughs.

Of course, it’s worth noting that this clip is not current and it’s not entirely clear from the brief segment if this was a joke, but fans are up in arms over the gesture — and Selena hopped into the comments to stand by Taylor. “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game,” she wrote. Neither Hailey nor Taylor has responded to the video.

Selena is pretty active on TikTok; while she famously has an assistant post on Instagram on her behalf, she likes the video platform better. (Recently, Sel told Vanity Fair that she finds it “less hostile” than other platforms.) The actor and musician often posts her beauty and skincare routines on the platform and shares sneak peeks and application tips for new Rare Beauty products, as well as occasionally silly, relatable posts about dating and life.

However, her TikTok activity has come under increased attention; in one TikTok Story, Selena Gomez said she wished she was “as pretty as Bella Hadid.” (The two also notably share an ex-boyfriend, the Weeknd.) In another, the Only Murders in the Building actor shared that she had over-laminated her brows, and fans took subsequent brow-centric posts by Kylie Jenner as shade, though Kylie and Selena were quick to squash rumors of drama.

As for Hailey and Selena, the two posed for pictures together in late 2022 to let fans know there was no bad blood between them.

UPDATE: Selena is hitting the pause button on social media for a bit. The star announced the news via TikTok, saying, “I’m gonna be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly. I’m 30, I’m too old for this.” Selena assured her fans that she loves them and is very happy, and that the break won’t be too long. “I will see you sooner than later, I’m just going to take a break from everything.”
