“Sex Education” Season Four Started Filming and Ncuti Gatwa Is Returning
Sex Education is losing a number of familiar faces ahead of season four, but one fan-favorite will be back! According to Variety, Ncuti Gatwa is set to continue his role as Eric Effiong.
News of Ncuti’s return comes after fans worried his packed schedule would prevent him from returning to Moordale Secondary School. In case you missed the exciting news, Ncuti was cast as the new Doctor in Doctor Who. He’s also set to appear in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming live-action Barbie movie.
Ahead of season four, the popular Netflix series has lost a number of its popular characters. Simone Ashley, who portrayed Olivia Hanan, announced her exit back in April, saying she was “a Bridgerton girl now.” Months later, Patricia Allison, who fans know as Ola, said she was leaving to do “some other little things.” Shortly after news of Patricia’s departure, Tanya Reynolds, who played Lily, confirmed she was exiting the series, too.
As of yet, there’s no word on any other cast departures, but filming is underway. Asa Butterfield, aka Otis, shared the exciting news on Twitter, posing outside of what looked to be a trailer. “Guess who’s back,” he wrote.

There’s no word on what adventures and misadventures await Moordale, but season three did introduce a number of new characters. It also ended with a number of major cliffhangers, as Maeve left for the United States and Moordale was set to close because of continued financial issues. A source told Variety that season four would “see a mixture of old and new exciting faces.”
Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed a release date for season four, but with so many of the Sex Education characters appearing in other projects, you’ll definitely get the chance to reunite with many of your favorites soon.
