TikTok Found a Glossier You Dupe Fragrance at Zara

If there’s one thing beauty TikTok loves more than anything, it’s a great beauty dupe. A quick search of the word “dupe” reveals thousands of videos about the less expensive versions of popular products like lipstick, primer, and perfume. Now, there’s one perfume dupe in particular making the rounds on the app: a Glossier You dupe.

Glossier’s wildly popular You fragrance has been flying off the shelves pretty much since it was released, and for good reason. It’s supposed to compliment your natural scent and smell different on everyone thanks to its warm but light blend of pink pepper, iris, and ambrox, which is a musky synthetic note. However, some fans suspect that You was recently reformulated, and it doesn’t smell the same, so they’ve been on the hunt for dupes that better replicate the original fragrance. And where do they go to find said dupes? Zara!

According to many TikTokers, Zara’s A Perfume in Rose is an almost exact dupe for You’s supposed older formula. Despite what its name may have you believe, this isn’t a rose fragrance. Zara describes it as a “floral fragrance with woody and musky touches.” It has many of the same notes as the OG fragrance, including pink pepper, iris, and ambrette, blended with hints of pear and woody notes, which is why many consider it a worthy contender for a Glossier You dupe. A Perfume in Rose retails for $27.90 for 100 ml, versus You, which retails for $68 for 1.7 oz/50 ml and $98 for the same size as Zara’s.

Before you run to your local Zara (or shop the perfume online), be aware of some things. You and A Perfume in Rose might smell veeeery similar, but they are, of course, not exactly the same. Some TikTokers found A Perfume in Rose to be a little sweeter than You, likely because of the fruity notes, but others consider it a complete twin. Fragrance TikToker Kimberley Kamale calls it “99.9% similar” except for the fruity notes at the top.

This isn’t the first time Zara has gone viral for their fragrances. The scent Red Temptation was praised as a dupe for Maison Francis Kurkdijan’s equally popular Baccarat Rouge 540, but as someone who owns both, I can tell you from firsthand experience that the Zara version is much less plush and rich than the original. Much like the case with the You fragrance, they’re pretty close, but they’re not exact dupes!

Of course, beauty dupes have come under some controversy, and some people have mixed feelings about them, but then again, “Inspired By” fragrances have been around for decades. And, ICYMI, Zara now even has its own collection with thee Jo Malone if you are looking for more affordable yet original fragrances. If you’re looking for more affordable alternatives to test out your new signature fragrance, it seems like a safe bet to zip on over to Zara, but if not, the originals will always be there, ready to wrap their arms around you!
