Video Game Benefit
Video games are widespread all over the world and is a means of entertainment for everyone. Ever since the pong came out, video games expanded to new heights and got addictive to people. This addiction makes a person spend more time playing games rather than time outside. This became my problem as a child. As I grow addicted to the Nintendo and play station games, I never went out of the house. After school, I’d sit down in front of the console and play games.
However, there are hidden benefits in playing video games after all. It trains a person to think faster even though they’re in one spot. Their mind is usually quicker than others although their reflex is not.
A research was conducted on two groups of male aged 18 to 25 years old. All of them aren’t regular gamers. Both groups we’re given 50 hours of playtime. The first group was given fast paced games like call of duty two and unreal tournament. The second group played slow paced games.
After the 50 hour play time, both groups were given auditory and visual information test. The researchers wanted to know if the fast paced gamers have a difference with slow paced gamers.
It turns out that the first group has a 25% faster response than the second group. Both have accurate answers although the second group didn’t have a fast response.
The probabilistic inference is trained with the fast action games.
Our brain gathers and crunches visual and auditory information up until it can decide whether or not this is a viable option. Then it makes a precise and accurate action. Gamers that play war games usually have a faster visual and hearing reaction with their environment. Their brain is trained to act faster than a normal person. It’s a hidden training if you see it in another way.
I used to play counter strike with my classmates way back in high school. When I play basketball, I’d usually recognize defense situations and what to do. My hand-eye coordination back then was really fast because I’d play counter strike for at least five hours a day.
As you can see, there is something good in playing a video game. But it should never be a reason for a person to stay in front of one for a long period of time. A person should balance his mental and physical exercise as well.
