What to Do When You Reach That Last Page of Harry Potter

Harry Potter fans around the world gave off a collective groan when they finished reading the last of the Harry Potter series. Many were plagued with the same question that I was when I finished that last page. “Now what?” Some of us found solace in reading through the series over again, but let’s be honest, that only works for so long. There are only so many times that you can revisit the same set of characters, and plot lines. As the Harry Potter series begins to sink in to the depths of read over and forgotten stories its time to jump ship.

Although they were captivating in their time, the Harry Potter books are just a trickle of water among the raging sea of books that are produced every year. Find something new that inspires you.

Many new readers were formed because of the Harry Potter series and many of them may not have realized the fact that there are countless high quality books out there.

It’s hard to believe that there could be another character as evil as Voldemort, or as courageous as Harry, or even as weird as Luna, but I’ve seen them. In my reading since the final book I have come across characters that made Voldemort look like a softy. Courageous heroes with real problems to take care of, and well, some very odd characters. My whole point is that there is a whole world of books out there, get out there and start reading!

I am going to propose a small list of books that were refreshingly similar to Harry Potter. I urge you to give at least one of them a try. At the very least it should help fill up the void that you probably feel right now.

The Hobbit is an excellent fantasy book to read and it is the beginning of the Lord of the Rings trilogy that most people are familiar with. This is one of my favorite books and very highly recommended.

The Chronicles of Narnia is another well known series with a few movies out on the market as well. These books kept my interest all the way through, and although they are not as long as the Harry Potter novels they are still enjoyable.

A Wrinkle in Time combines science fiction and fantasy together in an incredibly enjoyable book. You will be captivated from the first page.
