Environmental health is often the most neglected part of our health as it is also the newest recognized part of the human health. Environmental health is the effects of our civilization, culture, personal habits, pollution, population growth, and travel on human health. It is a new science that measures a variety of factors leading to acquired and congenital diseases. Congenital diseases are caused by genetic defects or factors that harm fetal development.
Examples of Environmental Health Concerns:
Food management is a major concern which not only includes the fertilizers and pesticides used in the growth of plants but the growth hormones and type of process used with meat. Birth defeats have been linked back to these exact things.
Water quality is to make sure there is proper drainage to control stagnate water. Stagnate water attracts mosquitoes which carries and spreads disease. The other aspect is the purification of water for drinking water, water to cook and irrigate crops.
Disease control comes into play with the administration of vaccinations and promotion of personal hygiene along with the proper disposal of waste.
Housing and Transportation has implemented changes such as lead free paint, removing asbestos, electric cars to help with carbon monoxide pollution in the air.
Pollution has many aspects of concern such as air pollution, chemical waste management, and solid waste management which includes recycling, landfills, and composting.
Climate Change is an aspect of environmental health that deals with rising temperatures, rising sea levels, and melting glaciers.
Environmental wellness has evolved into many different concerns that are now having to be addressed as a consequence of our actions. The evolution of the earth’s health is highly dependent upon the decisions we make each day. It is not just up to the government, it is up to each of us to do our part to help maintain our natural resources. A healthy environment leads to a healthy you.
