Bedroom Design – French Furniture Style

Google Sites

‘French’ style furniture and room design are all the rage at the moment and this is especially true in the bedroom. It’s soft, romantic and very achievable once you know how!

If you have made the decision (for whatever reason) to stick with your existing furniture, it can be very easy to transform them by painting them in an eggshell paint and then distressing them by sanding certain areas down to the natural wood – usually edges, handles and all the places you would naturally see wearing occur. Change the handles for wooden knobs, wallpaper at the back of dressers and stencil on some French words. Finally you could add moulding to finish off the look.

If your wardrobes are beyond repair then why not indulge and invest in some fitted sliding door wardrobes. Brilliant for storage, they can also be fitted into any awkward space and best of all there are many styles to choose from, so there is bound to be one to complement your new ‘French’ look.

For wall colours, cream is probably a top choice as it delivers some classic warmth and will display any specially chosen pieces such as mirrors really well. Bare floorboards complement this style and painting them probably works best; choose either cream, light blue or a grey to compliment the scheme. Plain, full curtains with carefully chosen tie backs will frame your windows and give a feeling of Parisian luxury!

If you have a beautiful French style bed or have revamped your old one using the earlier transformation instructions, then this is where you can really have some fun! Why not treat yourself to a new duvet cover? There are many French style designs available at affordable prices. If you choose a classic pattern such as a cream backing with delicately painted flowers in taupe on it, this will really help to pull the room together. Patterned, textured cushions, throws and bed runners will also help to build the illusion.

Accessories are also important to the overall look. How about hanging the word “love” or “amour” above the bed, with a typical French painting above it? Delicate lamps and crafted mirror frames will all look beautiful with the other pieces of furniture. Lastly, hang some hearts from hooks and drawer handles.

Finish off the room with a chandelier and a French style chair in the corner of the room draped with a throw and some cushions. You now have a French style bedroom that is both affordable and achievable.
