“Hannah Montana” Lead Roles Nearly Went to Aly & AJ
It’s hard to imagine now, but there was almost a world in which two very important Hannah Montana roles went to Aly & AJ.
ICYMI, a recent TikTok video from Hannah Montana casting director Lisa London revealed that Miley Cyrus wasn’t the only star considered for the role of Hannah. According to Lisa, Taylor Momsen, Victorious star Daniella Monet, and Miley were the final three Hannah contenders.
Lisa’s casting revelation had much of the Internet talking, including Aly and Amanda Joy Michalka, who tweeted their “tea” regarding possible starring roles on the show. “I adore Lisa London but I have some tea beyond the tea to spill. Gary Marsh originally offered the role of “Hannah Montana” to Aly and I was offered the role of “Lilly Truscott” (I know this so doesn’t matter but thought I’d chime in),” AJ tweeted.

We now know that the role of Hannah went to Miley and Emily Osment was cast as Lilly Truscott. The pair played BFFs on the show for the duration of Hannah Montana.
As Variety points out, Aly and AJ’s recent tweet wasn’t the first time the sisters had spoken about possibly appearing on the show. During a previous podcast interview with Between Cut and Action, Aly explained that the two weren’t interested in being on the show. “I remember being so sure about saying no. It wasn’t even like there was a question of 5% wanting to do it. I was just like, ‘I don’t want to do this. I don’t want to do a show about singing. I don’t want to do a show where I play two people. I don’t want to do a show where I’m singing, I’m a solo artist, but in my real life I’m actually a duo with my sister. I think this is going to be insanely confusing for people,'” she said.
