Options for People Who Want to Sell Video Game Systems

Google Sites

Often people will put an ad on eBay to sell video game systems, thinking this will bring them top dollar. But this isn’t always the case. People buying from private owners will often try to get the price cut way down – and if that doesn’t happen, they simply might not buy.

With an eBay sale, other considerations include the time involved (not all eBay sales happen in 45 seconds) and the possibility of dealing with a return because of product dissatisfaction. Of course, eBay does sell a vast amount of merchandise, and in many cases it’s the most effective way to go, but not necessarily the best way to sell video games and systems.

Consignment shops are a fairly simple way to sell video game systems: you take your system or individual games to the shop, the shop puts it out on the floor, somebody buys it and you get paid – minus what the consignment shop charges you as commission.

Another way is through a dealer who sells these types of games and systems. Now, many people will say that a dealer won’t give a fair price, but actually the dealer is likely to give the most fair price. Experienced dealers who sell video games and systems know what a product is worth much more accurately than the person trying to sell theirs or the consignment shop or the eBay respondent.

Just because a person paid $200 for a Nintendo 3DS XL a year ago doesn’t mean the system is worth $200 today. Video game dealers know the industry and know what they’re going to be able to resell a product for. Yes, they’ll take a percentage, but in one way or the other, everyone else we talked about here will, too.

(Unless you can find a dummy who will pay you $2,000 for the SDS XL – in which case you’re not selling a system but creating a racket.)

Consider this, too: working with a professional dealer is a quick operation. You walk in, the dealer looks at your product, you talk price, you agree, you get the money and you go home. Plus while you’re there you can “talk shop” with the dealer and browse all kinds of different products. For many people who want to sell video games, this option turns out to be the best one.

To sum up, an overabundance of video games and systems on the market has led to people constantly changing and upgrading and looking for places to sell video game systems and related products. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, but for many people, working with an experienced dealer is the favored option.
