Taylor Swift’s Confirms Next Re-Record is “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”

Taylor Swift finally confirmed what many superfans already had a hunch about: that her next re-record would be Speak Now. 

The superstar artist broke the news directly to a stadium full of fans Friday night that her next “Taylor’s Version” project would be her 2010 album, Speak Now. Kicking off night one of the Eras Tour in Nashville, Tennessee, Swift delivered the news after months of speculation. 

“I think rather than me speaking about it, I thought I would show you,” Swift said to her screaming fans. “So if you would direct your attention to the big screens.” 

The screens then displayed the album cover for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), along with a release date of July 7. Swift’s official social media accounts then confirmed the news shortly after, with a long caption about her “self-written” third studio album that she made between the ages of 18 and 20. 

“The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness,” the caption read. “I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it.”

She also said that the new album would include six new songs. 

Swift first announced in 2019 that she would re-record albums made with her previous label, Big Machine Records after the company was acquired by Scooter Braun — spawning a feud between the artist and Braun. She has since released the “Taylor’s Version” of Fearless and Red —  both with never-before-heard songs. 

Eagle-eyed Swifties had their suspicions that the next re-record would be Speak Now because wristbands handed out at last week’s Eras show in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium turned purple toward the end of the concert. Purple is the signature color of Speak Now. 

The album had a total of six singles that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 — including two that landed in the top ten: “Mine,” and “Back to December.” 

With Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) coming out, the three albums left to be released are her debut self-titled album, 1989, and Reputation.
